When is the Best Time of Year to Buy a Pool?

So, you cannot handle the hot South African summer any longer and decided to get a new swimming pool installed. The big question is, when is the right time to have a pool installed? Every pool salesman will tell you that now is the best time to buy, and back it up by arguing that prices will never be lower. We like to say that the right time to buy a pool is when you are ready. After all, there are lots of decisions to make and considerations to weigh UP, and mistakes can be costly. But if you are insisting on knowing what time of year is ideal for getting a new pool, our swimming pool experts say it is best to get it installed in autumn. The idea is to start contacting pool builders during the offseason, when you can potentially get better prices on materials and labour. It is hard to argue with that logic, though each season does offer pluses and minuses when it comes to pool installation.

Spring

When the weather starts to heat up, so do swimming pool sales. Yes, spring is the time when many
homeowners finally act on their plans to install a pool. A spring installation means you will get full use out of your new pool throughout the summer. Unfortunately, with the demand being so high around this time of year, it is harder to find good deals. Popular pool builders may already be seeing their schedules fill up with new projects.

Summer

This is typically the worst time to install a new swimming pool. Prices are still high, good pool installers still have plenty of business, and you do not even get the whole summer to enjoy your new backyard oasis. In fact, building a pool could put a dampener on your summer fun. Dealing with contractors can be time-consuming and, once construction gets going, your backyard could be out of commission when you want to use it the most. That said, late January can be an excellent time to start contacting pool builders, who may be eager to extend their busy season.

Autumn

The main downside of installing your swimming pool in autumn is that you will not get to use your new swimming pool until spring. But that seems to be the only downside. Pool builders are not as busy, and may feel pressure to keep their bids as low as possible. You can take advantage of sales on materials and equipment. Pricing aside, it gives you the rest of autumn to work on your landscaping before you start swimming.

Winter

If you are looking to negotiate with pool builders to get the best possible deal, winter might be the best time. However, there is a downside. The climate can make winter swimming pool installation difficult, or sometimes impossible. Another downside is that some builders go into hibernation at this time of year and are simply not available. In the end, it is better to pay a little more for a pool you really want, rather than get a “great deal” on one that turns out to be disappointing, regardless of what the calendar says. When you make use of SA Pools’ services, you will be pleased to know that we can install your swimming pool of choice all year round.
